Skechers to pay $40 million to customers for Shape-Up Shoes false claims

ATLANTA (WTOC) - Skechers is going to pay up for it's shape-ups. The government says Skecher's claims that the Shape-Up fitness shoes can help shed pounds and tone muscles are sketchy at best. 
 
The footwear company will pay $40 million to settle charges by the Federal Trade Commission that Skechers made unfounded claims that its Shape-ups shoes would help people lose weight and strengthen their butt, leg and stomach muscles.

AAA releases Memorial Day travel outlook

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The summer travel season kicks off Memorial Day weekend, and AAA expects a slight increase in traffic compared to last year.

AAA predicts more than 30 million Americans will travel at least 50 miles this Memorial Day weekend. Those numbers are up a little more than one percent from 2011, but in Georgia, the outlook is a little better.

Overnight fire displaces family of six in Liberty Co.

LIBERTY CO., GA (WTOC)- The Gum Branch Fire department responded to a mobile home fire overnight that has left a family of six homeless.

Fire officials say it started around 4 a.m. Wednesday at a home in Gum Branch. Crews could still see flames shooting from the home about an hour
after the fire began, prompting the Gum Branch Fire Department to call in aid
from Hinesville, Walthourville and Long County.

The fire has displaced two adults and four children ages 3, 5,
8, and 13. All of the family members escaped the residence without injury.
