2 men shot during home invasion in Hinesville

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC)- The Hinesville Police Department are investigating a home invasion that lead to two men being shot in Hinesville late Saturday night.

It happened in the Colonial Parks Condos on Pineland Ave just before midnight. Police say the homeowner was upstairs when he and his wife heard someone entering their home through a door in the kitchen area.

The homeowner went downstairs confronted the intruder and both men began shooting. It is not known if the homeowner had a weapon with him or retrieved it downstairs.

"Gene would laugh to know I have a military ID card now," she said.

"It's like getting a small part of my son back."

HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC)- Some 3rd Infantry Division troops are back home with friends and family. The 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry received a warm welcome as they returned from their nine-month deployment in Afghanistan.

Fort Stewart Fire assists in Tattnall County water tower rescue

Fort Stewart firefighters recently used their specialized lifesaving skills and training to rescue a Tattnall County maintenance worker from a 135-foot tall water tower in Cobbtown after he collapsed while repairing it May 21.

The installation's Special Rescue Team-a rescue truck, a 105-foot platform truck, and six firefighters-was dispatched upon the county's request to assist in the rescue of the 21-year-old county employee.
