New ID card makes installation access easier for Gold Star families

(FORT STEWART, Ga.) -- With tears in her eyes but a smile on her lips, Gold Star mother Linda Lamie looked at her newest addition to her wallet.

"Gene would laugh to know I have a military ID card now," she said.

"It's like getting a small part of my son back."

Fort Stewart Fire assists in Tattnall County water tower rescue

Fort Stewart firefighters recently used their specialized lifesaving skills and training to rescue a Tattnall County maintenance worker from a 135-foot tall water tower in Cobbtown after he collapsed while repairing it May 21.

The installation's Special Rescue Team-a rescue truck, a 105-foot platform truck, and six firefighters-was dispatched upon the county's request to assist in the rescue of the 21-year-old county employee.
